Bahia Belle (2015) is a seamstress from Bahia, Brazil. Although trapped in the harsh system of slavery, she is creative soul that expresses herself in the traditions of fabric and style that many in her community would have sought out and coveted. Materials chosen to tell this story speak of the time and era. The box frame is a replica of a steamer trunk which represents the migration of people, ideas, culture, and artistry.
